Frequently Asked Questions

1.  Why can competitors only enter one pole bending class this year?

NBHA New Brunswick is happy to include pole bending as an additional event; however, as a barrel racing-focused organization we will only be offering two pole bending classes (open and green) to maintain an efficient schedule and reduce the strain on resources. Limiting entries to one class per competitor helps ensure equal access and allows prize money to be distributed to more individuals across different levels.

2. Can I change or add classes at the show?

All changes must be made by 9:00pm the Friday before the show. There will be a $10 charge for each change.

3. Why has the late fee increased to $50?

The late fee has been increased to reflect the additional planning and administrative challenges that come with late entries. Our goal is to encourage competitors to enter on time to help ensure a smooth well-organized event. However, for those who choose to enter late, the $50 fee reflects the added inconvenience and extra work required to accommodate those entries.

4. What is a carry-over?

Members can choose to use their Open time as their time for additional barrel classes they have entered. That choice must be made prior to their Open run (by 9:00pm Friday) and cannot be changed afterward.

5. How does the “D” (divisional) system work?

The divisional system splits results into multiple divisions based on the time differences from the fastest run. The fastest time in the class will start the 1D. In a 3D race the 2D would then start 1 second later and 3D another second after that. In a 5D race there is 0.5 seconds between each division. All successful runs will fall into a division. The number of paid placings per division varies by the number of entries. The NBHA official rulebook offers a more in-depth description.

6. Why is crossing the timer liner after a run a “No Time”?

The National Barrel Horse Association considers it to be off pattern. NBHA New Brunswick will apply this all classes not just the NBHA official classes to reduce confusion.

7. Why aren't the shows all in Sussex anymore?

We recognize that PLP is a excellent facility; however, it is also a very busy and heavily booked venue. At this time, we have chosen not to book the outdoor arena, as we feel covered arenas offer more consistent and predictable ground conditions. Additionally, we hope that hosting events at various locations will encourage participation from riders in different regions. While we understand this will increase travel for some, it reduces it for others.
