Show Procedures and Responsibilities

How will I know when it's my time to run?
Answer: The announcer will announce the 5 riders that needs to be in the holding pen.

I have difficulty entering my horse in the ring. When does the 1-minute start?
Answer: We give 2 minutes for NBHA classes and 1 minute for others. The time starts when the announcer calls your name until the time you cross the timer.

What happens if I cross the timer before or after my official run?
Answer: Any additional crossing of the timer before or after your official run will result in a NT. Timers are not on the rail, so if you don't trip the timer, it’s not a NT.

What happens if I miss my run?

Answer: It is the rider's responsibility to know their position in the running order and what number is currently running. If you miss your run, you will receive a "no time."

Why is the running order different on Saturday and Sunday for all classes?
Answer: The running order is generated randomly and cannot be changed. The number of participants varies between Saturday and Sunday, giving everyone a chance to be in different positions in the order.

Can I set up the barrels or poles after the show to practice?
Answer: No, setting up barrels or poles after the show for practice is not allowed as it gives an unfair advantage to those who do it. Exhibition runs are available for practice purposes.

Parking and Arrival

What time can I arrive on Friday?
Answer: Any time after 2 PM.

I used to be able to choose my parking spot. Why can't I anymore?
Answer: The club is growing, and what worked for 50 horses and riders no longer works. Assigning parking spots helps us manage the increased number of participants more efficiently.

Stalls and Shavings

Do I need to clean my stall when I leave?
Answer:

  • Barn 5: Put the shavings with manure in the middle of the stall.

  • Barns 1, 2, 3 and 4: Put the shavings with manure in the middle of the alley.

Miscellaneous

What is a carryover?
Answer: A carryover allows contestants to use their time from the Open class in another class (e.g., Senior, Youth, Teen, Over/Under, and GAG). Contestants wishing to carry over a time must declare their intent on the entry form and pay the applicable entry fee for both classes.

What is a sidepot?
Answer: A sidepot is a class where no one runs separately, but the time from the Open class is used for the sidepot. This adds an additional chance for the contestant to win a check against a smaller pool of competitors.

Do I need to volunteer during the season to be eligible for the year-end award?
Answer: Yes, NBHA NB requires volunteering. Other district members need to either volunteer or pay between $100 to $250 or find a sponsor for that amount to be eligible for the year-end award. We choose volunteering.

How many hours do I need to volunteer for?
Answer: There is no specific time requirement as it depends on the duration of each show. We expect everyone to help at every show, but we understand that not everyone can attend all shows and we may not need everyone at each show.

Year-End Awards and Banquet

When is the year-end banquet?
Answer: This year, we are having a "Barn Party" on the last Saturday of our show season, and the awards will be given then. This way, people from out of town or other provinces don't need to come back.

Do I have to be a member to get year-end awards?
Answer: Yes, you need to be a member and participate in at least 3, 1-day shows.
